Guiding You Through The Adoption Process

Adoption is a joyful time for a family. It is also a time when many adoptive parents feel anxiety over whether everything will proceed as expected. What if the birth parent changes his or her mind about the adoption? Could he or she take the child back?

Whether you are a stepparent, foster parent or grandparent who wishes to adopt a child who is living with you, a same-sex couple who wishes to adopt, or you and your spouse are pursuing a private adoption, the family law attorneys at the Blacha Law Office can guide you through the legal steps. We represent adoptive parents in Naperville, Joliet and the surrounding areas who wish to move out of state.

Understanding The Legal Steps Of Adoption

Before you can adopt a child, the rights of the biological parents (or parent) must be fully and finally terminated. This can be done either voluntarily or involuntarily through the court. The court may also require a home study and background check of the adoptive parents. A home study may not be needed in a stepparent or relative adoption.

Adoption is both a legal process and an emotional one. Through the process of adoption, you will gain all the rights and responsibilities afforded to a biological parent, such as the right to raise a child and make decisions about your child’s education, religion, medical care and upbringing. We will handle the legal process so you can concentrate on creating a loving home and positive future for your child.
